Twitter2 A Year of Sweet Twitter Tweets

Almost a year ago, a little blue bird flew into my online world…and it hasn’t been quite the same since.  Born with the gift of gab, I wasn’t sure if I could hold my communications to 140 characters at a time, but I finally caught on.  I follow photographers, designers, politicians, media personalities, non-profits, corporations, friends, family and folks who tweet about fodder and fact.  I’ve learned how to personally brand, de-clutter, spread the word and follow the trends. I’ve listed, been listed, followed and unfollowed.

Microblogging has permeated my time with wit and wisdom that has spilled into live-and-in-person connections at Tweetups, Meetups and more.  Re-tweeting is the sincerest form of short busts of flattery…a tiny acknowledgement of relevancy among the busy chatter.  We are the captains of our cyber destiny, and only too much time away from technology can hold us back.  No man is an island, and that is evident in the growing legions of Tweeple.  These stats from an article by Michael Gass add fuel to the Twitter fire that is burning fast and furious.

  • In 2009, there will be 18 million US adults who access Twitter at least monthly.
  • Twitter is the fastest growing social network in the world, increasing by 1,928% from June 2008 to Jun 2009.
  • Twitter reached the 50 million unique visitor mark in July 2009.
  • If Twitter’s current growth rate keeps up, they could be at 100 million members by the end of 2010

As Twitter takes flight, its future looks bright!  A little birdie told me! – @carenlibby
