  • Creators:  24% write and publish
  • Conversationalists: 33% update and post
  • Critics: 37% rate and comment
  • Collectors: 20% subscribe and vote
  • Joiners: 59% have a profile and visit
  • Spectators: 70% read, listen and watch
  • Inactives: 17% no involvement

Josh Bernoff discusses the importance of developing a social media strategy based on the segments of users on the Groundswell blog.  For example, the conversationalists are 56% female, and they are actively participating online.
