Blogging 5 Easy Ways to Use Social Media for Research and Inspiration

A friend of mine asked me how I came up with ideas for my articles.  He wanted to start a blog but wasn’t sure how to go about finding subject matter.  For me, writing is intellectual exercise and an opportunity to exchange ideas. I’m frequently inspired by a photograph that connects the visual to the written.  Social media platforms and blogs in particular are ideal for finding relevant information.  While the Internet provides an endless supply of rich resources, the process of narrowing them down can be daunting.   Here are 5 favorites:

Google Reader:  subscribe to blogs that provide a daily dose of inspiration

Twitter Search:  search news that is happening right now

Facebook Pages:  read posts from pages you “fan” and add the Networked Blogs application

LinkedIn Groups: focus on relevant discussions and news articles in the groups that you join

Netvibes:  this site provides widgets that can mix and match RSS feeds and platforms in one place
