March 2010

Every now and then fast-paced flashes of Internet statistics make the social media rounds.  They are a reminder of the mind-boggling magnitude that popular web sites have to connect and influence users. With so many choices and so much to share, how do we keep track of people in all of these spaces?
Gist The Gist of Organizing Influential Social Media and E mail Contacts
Brad Hogenmiller, the Director of the Social Media Club in St. Louis, posted information about a very useful site in a LinkedIn discussion. GIST helps organize the people and companies that are valuable to your social media and e-mail contact lists.  To learn the details of how to maximize your connections in this amazing program, check out the informational webinar that is posted on their blog.  It might come in handy!

Balls2 215x300 Innovative Ideas are Bouncing Around Arch City

On March 25, an IdeaBounce took place at Washington University in St. Louis. What is that you ask?  It’s a program that was created as part of  the Skandalaris Center of Entrepreneurial Studies. A virtual portal for sharing ideas is available 24/7 on their web site, and the contributors can pitch them to a panel of community judges at regularly-scheduled events. The winners receive a cash prize and mentoring from local business leaders who encourage and help direct them to resources for additional support. Participants include everyone from students to seasoned professionals who have the drive and desire to bring their vision to life.

I had a chance to observe this fascinating, rapid-fire exchange of ideas and engage in the energetic networking that followed. It’s a thrill to witness the “art of the start” (thank you Guy Kawasaki) and see where it goes!

Simple and to the point is always the best way to get your point across. – Guy Kawasaki
