As I opened the box to my new notebook today, I wondered what the Internet of the future might look like.  Since the purchase of my last computer, there have been so many extraordinary advances in technology. For example, Google has developed several tools that I now use regularly: Alerts, Chrome, Reader, Social Search and the Wonder Wheel. In this 45-minute interview featuring Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, he shared his view of what the web may be like in the next 5 years.  He discussed its potential to be more robust and efficient as third-party applications and cloud computing continue to evolve.  He also predicted that:

- Chinese will be the dominant language on the Internet

- Mobile access will be more common than computer-based access

- User-generated content will exceed traditional media content

- Larger broadband networks will create a more seamless user experience

- Businesses of scale will be created around video

- There will be a greater ability to generate and rank real-time information

Did you know that the Chrome browser has address-space separation in each tab so it has higher security than other browsers?

Mr  Schmidt also stated that there will be an ability to predict personal behavior, diseases and crises in an article in ReadWriteWeb.

How do you think these predictions could impact your future?

There were 5 exabytes of information created between the dawn of civilization through 2003, but that much information is now created every 2 days, and the pace is increasing. People aren’t ready for the technology revolution that’s going to happen to them. – Eric Schmidt
