Sunflowers Create Photo Collages from Facebook Albums: The Sunflower Field

A year ago, a friend told me about a huge sunflower field that was blooming in west St. Louis County. We grabbed our cameras, took several photos and came back for more later in the week. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to capture something extraordinary. Right now those acres are filled with corn plants. I wrote an article about the experience, and that turned out to be one of my most popular posts…ever. Fortunately, the digital files are saved in several places to preserve those sunny memories.

The collage pictured above is a screenshot from a photo album on Social St. Louis, one of my Facebook pages. When I saw the updated album format, it was obvious that it would be perfect for creating collages. I did it by uploading the photos to Facebook, taking a web screenshot of the album page with Aviary (an amazing extension on Google Chrome) and saving it on my hard drive. It’s so easy!

Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again. – Henri Cartier Bresson

In 2009, I switched my blog from Blogger to WordPress and experimented with some of their free themes. It’s amazing what they have to offer at no cost, and going that route is an excellent way to get started. Now I have a hosted WordPress blog with the Thesis theme, a slick combination that offers so many more options.

There are several plug-ins that have been incorporated into this blog at one time or another (plug-ins rock). Right now, some of my favorites are Portfolio Slideshow, Apture, Headup, BNS Corner Logo, Image Shadow, Share This, Yet Another Related Post and kStats.

Blogging is a terrific way to exercise writing skills and encourage people to learn more through research and interaction on the web.  It’s also another creative format for photographers to showcase their work.

If you blog in WordPress, what are your favorite plug-ins?
